Eureka Public Works Complex
Region influences public works facility's resilience approach
The Eureka Public Works Complex replaces existing facilities with a new center of operations. The City’s existing facilities are in high liquefaction and tsunami risk zones and the new site relocates these vital services to be more resilient in the case of an emergency. Scott Edwards Architecture’s design consolidates Eureka’s engineering department, fleet maintenance facility, storage, yard, code enforcement, and public works crews into an efficient and responsive complex—programming, adjacencies, and opportunities for connection and reprieve are prioritized. The site and building are strongly influenced by the local micro-climate, this region’s unique sense of place, views to and from the neighborhood, and sustainability.
