Garden-style development encourages sense of community

The Kent Family Apartments is a new garden-style development in the North Tabor neighborhood. The development offers 32 thoughtfully designed residences that blend modern amenities with a warm sense of community. At the center of Scott Edwards Architecture’s design is the concept of the “front porch”, inspired by the traditional homes in the surrounding neighborhood—this approach creates a central gathering space for interaction, relaxation, and connection and is responsive to its North Tabor context.

In alignment with the client’s core values and commitment to reducing the environmental impact of construction, the project implements several sustainable practices. Lumber salvaged from the existing structures on-site will be repurposed as new finishes throughout the new common spaces. Additionally, the community is also pursuing a solar array system aimed at offsetting the majority of the building’s energy consumption. With the array maximized on-site, the project is tracking for a 94% reduction in energy use from a 2003 baseline, exceeding the current AIA 2030 Commitment goal.
