Bos Taurus

An exhibition in fine dining

Bos Taurus is an upscale dining experience in downtown Bend, Oregon. SEA partnered with the client to design this high-end restaurant and help shape its emerging brand identity. The space has a full bar, booth seating, an open kitchen, and a mezzanine with seating and storage. Special attention was given to maximizing the restaurant’s circulation – although the footprint is small, our strong understanding of staff workflow helped us to define spaces without creating barriers.

A cable-tension divider separates the bar and dining areas without obstructing sight lines or natural light.

The mezzanine takes advantage of the restaurant’s high ceilings by offering additional space for dining. SEA also used this area as an opportunity to build in more storage.

Bos Taurus’s design decisions revolved around showcasing the food and wine. The open kitchen puts the food prep on exhibit while shelving throughout the restaurant displays premium wine, liquor, and glassware.

Prior to its renovation, the space served as a taco bar. We found that by painting the wood floors, rather than removing them, we could give them new life. Much of the original red brick was uncovered and left exposed as well, incorporating more of the space’s past life.
